AN INNER OASIS, THE PATTERNS AND STONE DETAILS HAVE DELIBERATE MEANINGS, FOR EXAMPLE THE ZIG ZAG PATTERN SURROUNDING THE COURTYARD FLOOR SUGGESTS WATER WHEREAS THE "HAMSA" OR 8 POINTED STAR SYMBOL IN THE FRIEZE ABOVE THE ARCHES IS SYMBOLIC OF THE SUN.

THIS FEATURE, TYPICAL OF HOUSES IN DAMASCUS IS CALLED A "BAHOU" OR BANQUETTE FROM WHICH ONE CAN ENTERTAIN GUESTS AND ENJOY A VIEW OF THE INNER COURTYARD WITH IT'S FLORAL FRAGRANCES AND SOUNDS FROM THE FOUNTAIN.

THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE EXTRAORDINARY WORK PREFORMED BY LOCAL ARTISANS WE EMPLOYED FOR THIS PROJECT.
